about rosS Hamlin
Thank you for your interest in learning about studying with me! While still relatively new to the New Mexico area (five years) I started playing guitar when I was thirteen, having studied trumpet and piano previously. My first guitar was an old beat-up nylon string Goya that my mom had stashed away in the closet since the seventies. Initially studying classical, I was given my first electric the following year. For the next four years I continued studying classical as well as electric, for years taking two lessons per week.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in 1996 from Boston's Berklee College of Music, and over the years have studied with many teachers in several traditions. Formerly a resident artist at Mobius, a 20-year-old Boston mainstay for experimental art, I also produced works by over 300 Boston artists as director of the Boston non-profit arts collective Open Faucet Productions and performed frequently all over the New England and Minneapolis area; a tradition I'm continuing in New Mexico as well.
In Santa Fe I'm the Director of Education at Candyman Strings and Things and Artistic Director of Little Wing Performance & Education Space. I'm also a member of the seven-piece post fusion-funk band Things That Are Heard and ArC trio and do occasional gigs at galleries and restaurants with as a jazz guitar soloist, 1/3 of a jazz trio or electronica under the name FiNN.
